This May, a team of five Northeast Ohio firefighters will run the Cleveland Half Marathon in full firefighting gear. That's right: 40+ pounds of added canvas and weight while covering a distance of 13.1 miles. Team #HwangStrong -- Brian Durante, Patrick Mason, Micah Potts, David Kaszar, and Dan Kost -- are running for a reason: To raise money for a family fighting cancer. Click here to meet the team!
In October 2016 16-year-old Jakob Hwang, Brian's nephew and an Elyria Catholic high school student, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Although Jakob keeps a positive attitude and smile on his face, hospitalizations and treatment have taken a toll on this local family both emotionally and financially. Team #HwangStrong is running to raise awareness of Jakob's cause and to support the family in their time of need.
This year, Team #HwangStrong welcomes everyone and anyone who wants to run with the team to take part -- friends, family, and those inspired by Jakob's story have jumped in and committed to running the half marathon with the team, carrying water and fuel to support these firefighters as they cover an immense distance in full gear. If you would like to donate to Jakob's cause, you can do so by clicking here (GoFundMe link). If you would like to order a t-shirt to support Jakob or would like more information about this cause, contact Brian.
